Learn How to Select the Proper Affiliate for Home Business

The best way to start making money on line is through an Affiliate Program by promoting someone's product or service and collecting a fee or commission. The main advantage is the low cost of starting the business and the flexibility of picking the right product to promote.

Most people get started the wrong way: Making money is an immediate goal. That is fine, except that's not the way you start. Making money is the end of a process. Before you start, understand the process that takes you to the ultimate goal of making money.

You might have bought into packages promising success and a lot of money within few days. It will not happen.

Before we get into selection and marketing of any product or service, please note the following necessary personal attributes, without which you will not succeed.

Desire to learn

When starting out, you'll need to be willing to keep your eyes and ears open, using the experience of others to learn as you go. Look for new tools as well as learn from your own experience. Any time you have a question; the answer is available by just searching the Internet and is free.

Invest time and effort

I am addressing this article to out-of- work, retired and stay at home individuals. The time is the most important asset you have. Don't waste it. You must be willing to invest time and effort in helping your business grow, even if you don't see immediate results. Weeks may pass and one day you will you see one order, next day one more and after that, you will see even more. Don't stop. That is the fruit of your efforts, and it is only the beginning.

Determination

You put hours and days worth of effort and it seems that nothing happens. Be resilient, pick up another project, use the same tools, and another project. Don't give up.

Internet pays off if you do the right things. What is unique abut the Internet is the wide range of options available to experiment, especially if you have the time.

Discipline

Teach yourself to work everyday with all of your heart and soul, and you will be that much closer to reaching your goals and making your dreams come true. It's not any different that when you worked full time for an employer, except now you apply the discipline to your own benefit.

Optimism

You are the captain of your ship and you are the one steering it towards its destination. After you start, it seems like you are in the middle of the ocean heading to a known destination, but after a while you might feel lost. Be optimistic. Trust your instincts and your bearing.

Pick up the product or service you want to promote

Selecting the right product is easier said than done.

Pick up a product or service you understand and are passionate about. It could be a dog training book or a loan modification service. This is not any different than starting your own business or a franchise. Buy the product you intend to promote. Analyze it, make sure it is a viable, useful product, and the supplier is solid. Most importantly, make sure it is useful to you, and to your potential customers.

Once you have completed this step, take ownership of your business.

General notes about affiliate marketing - Conclusion

Compared to traditional advertising practices, affiliate programs are more effective, risk-free and cost-efficient. The most critical aspect in the affiliate program is advertising.

Affiliate marketing isn't as simple as directing customers to the business site. It requires preparation and part of the preparation is researching.

Affiliate marketers with rich-content web sites are usually the ones who prosper in this business because the content improves traffic to the site. The website with high quality content combined with relevant keywords and more importantly, right information about the product is the winner.

If you want long-term and highly satisfactory results, take time to learn the ins and outs of the business. Continue to improve your knowledge; advertising, programming, web page development, and search engine optimization techniques.

Study the needs and wants of your site users and how different merchandisers compete with each other.

Keep on trying; don't get disappointed if your first attempts did not pay off.

When you sign up for an affiliate program, don't expect to get rich in an instant. Work on your advertising strategies and be patient. You'll never know how much you can get if you don't persevere.

Work On Line From Home – Make Money With eBay Affiliate and Keywords!

, , , 0 comments

An open letter to out-of-work, retired, stay at home individuals.

Ebay offers a generous affiliate commission if you can send customers to the auction site. You earn $25.00 for each new active user you send to eBay. A New Active User is defined as an individual who registers for eBay for the first time, confirms his or her registration with an eBay-supplied password sent by email and goes onto eBay and

places a bid to purchase an item within 30 days of their original registration.

The utilities provided by eBay allow you to present on one page of your site the exact eBay page as you are eBay, without prospects even knowing that you are an affiliate. It is totally transparent to the prospect.

The main purpose is to present the prospect with the eBay page containing the exact keyword term of interest. I am targeting someone looking to buy the Canon G7 electronic camera. After I did my keyword analysis I found the term - canon g7 review - quite competitive. This term tells me that the prospect is quite interested in this camera. He is looking for reviews of this particular camera. The other, more important reason for my selection is that I can successfully compete with all major sites on Google.

Before we get into how to use eBay, let's examine the power of keyword terms selection. If you have not read my previous article about the keywords, the following parameters will be used to define competitive terms for the targeted market / product:

  1. Prospects - The number of terms entered into the search engines.
  2. Competition - The number of sites indexed by search engines for the specific term.
  3. AdWords Cost - The estimated price charged by Google and Yahoo for the specific term to be listed on top of the first page.
  4. SOC- The value represents the Strength of Competition score (0-1000). It calculates the level of SEO optimization of the top pages for the specific term. The lower the number the better.

The term - canon g7 review -

Prospects: 720, Competition: 89, Ad Cost: .43, SOC: 0

The average number of people searching Google for this term per month is 750. The number of sites containing the term is 89. The SEO optimization for the first page on Google is 0.

A special note is in order here. The parameter -Competition- is determined by searching through Google using the term in quotation marks. The first page on Google, will report 52,000 sites. Now, step through each page until you find the following message at the end of page: If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included. This page contains the 89th site displayed by Google. The rest of pages are considered redundant or irrelevant. This is the number used for Competition.

This represents a very attractive opportunity even using AdWords might be worth it. It could be quite easy to get your site on the first page on Google for some time.

Signing Up for eBay's Affiliate Program

eBay's Affiliate Program is administered through Commission Junction

( www.cj.com ) so you have to sign up to participate. Fill out the form and you should be approved immediately. Once you're a member of CJ log into your account. Click on Account and then Web Site Settings. Look for PID. Write this number down and keep it handy. That is the only thing you need from CJ to promote the eBay Affiliate program. Everything else you can do by using eBay's Affiliate Tools.

eBay Affiliate Tools

eBay provides several excellent tools that allow you to link to a specific item on eBay, any category of items or even an automatically updated list of items that match a specific search. You simply input your PID and supply a few bits of information and eBay's tools generate the code you need. You then simply place this code on a webpage and start driving traffic to it. Note: You must be a Registered eBay user to use the tools, which is also free.

Brief description of the tools

Flexible Destination Tool (AKA Flex Tool) - This tool allows you to link to any eBay page with your Affiliate ID embedded.

Editor Kit - Using this tool you can enter a search phrase and eBay will generate a list of items based on your search. You can narrow the search down by selecting other criteria such as Buy It Now Only, a Minimum and Maximum price range, showing items in only certain categories, etc. The best thing about this tool is that the content is dynamically updated in real time.

Note: You'll need a website to get the most out of the Editor Kit and some of the other tools. Websites are very inexpensive now and even if you don't want to create a full-blown content website you will still get a lot of use just by using it as a place to put up web pages for various projects.

RSS Feed Generator - this is very similar to the Editor Kit but it generates an RSS feed instead of an html page. You can use this RSS feed on your blog or anywhere else RSS feeds are appropriate. Just like with the Editor Kit the content is dynamically updated in real time.

Keyword Linking - the Keyword Linking tool allows you to enter a search term, ISBN or UPC and it will generate a link that directs users to a list of items that match your criteria with your affiliate id embedded.

Product Kit - it is similar to the Editor Kit in that it creates dynamically generated content based on search criteria that you enter. It creates more of a user experience with a Catalog of items related to the search term. While the Editor Kit creates item listings that can be used on a webpage, the Product Kit creates a full blown webpage that can stand on it's own without the need for other content. (It is as having a mini version of eBay on your site)

Sources of ideas for hot products selling on Ebay

The important element in searching for ideas is NEW anything, Before it launches such as movies, games, books, etc. You must be prepared when the product is released.

Amazon's New Releases

This will give you a list of all the new DVD's, Music, Books, Toys, Apparel, and Video Games. Right now the Transformer movie is getting ready to be released. I see one of the new releases on Amazon, the Transformers Optimus Prime figurine (at the time of writing this article). That gives me an idea so I look up -Transformers Movie- and look for article subjects related to this topic.

Amazon's Hot Sellers

These are all hot sellers so there is bound to be some serious searching going on for these products.

Froogle.com

Go to Froogle and on the home page there are 25 products that people have recently searched for using Froogle. Try any of those products.

Magazines.com

This is an amazing site for niche market hunting! Magazines spend a lot of money testing what to put on the covers of their magazines. You can be sure that anything mentioned on the cover is a hot topic.

Conclusion

Learn the importance and the power of keywords and phrases before anything else and you will be successful. Using the eBay as an educational vehicle, it will make you some money, but most importantly, it is a very inexpensive learning tool. It is also scaleable. You can add dozens of products at no incremental cost to your marketing, except your time. Do not go out and buy complicated programs that promise huge returns immediately. That is not possible. You can get to where these programs are promising on your own - one step at a time. Learn the power of keyboards as your first step.

Work at Home - Learn Internet Marketing and You will make money!

, , , 0 comments

An open letter to out-of-work, retired, stay at home individuals.

You can make money online.

A "Real Business" is where you promote and sell real products of quality. The Internet is a very powerful way to make it work, on a shoestring. Starting and being successful in the Internet business is much easier than you might think. However, you need to have a quality WEB site and a solid marketing plan.

My advice is to not pursue any "work-from-home program" at all. There is no way to make a steady income with any of them. The way to make money is by starting your own legitimate business where you sell a product or provide a service. There are no shortcuts to success.

I launched my first website more than seven years ago to support my distribution business of professional projection equipment. I used my site mainly as sales support for my clients. I never promoted it to the wide web. Over the years I accumulated dozens and dozens of Internet marketing material looking at the day when I will retire, and will have time to dedicate myself to using my site as a business. Two years ago my business dried up and I was forced to retire. Since then, I have been trading foreign currency (Forex) and working on my site to turn it into a real On-Line business.

For more than a year, I have been experimenting or rather testing the various "secrets" from my very large collection of "how-to" "e-books". I learned that there is no secret. The secret is a good website, knowledge of how to promote it and a lot of hard work and dedication, just like starting/growing any business. My main focus is to be able to maintain a top position with the search engines at a low direct cost to me, if possible to trade my time for a zero marketing cost.

Is this possible? Yes if you do it right.

Before we go into how-to, please note the following:

Starting a home business is hard work and don't let anyone tell you differently. The pleasure comes from finding an opportunity that you really enjoy working on, but effort is still required. Don't just jump into the first opportunity you see.

While many promote the ease of online business, they fail to mention the effort and time it takes to make a website successful. It's an easy business because you can set it up and it works 24 hours a day. But in reality, while it maybe easy, the success of your website costs a lot of time and effort.

Your WEB site is your business

Make your website Content Rich. The design and content should be done with your prospective customer in mind. Do not clutter the website with excessive graphics and animation. If anything, add more content, especially quality content. The search engines are content hungry and more content means more keywords. Try to use text instead of images where possible. Organize your website into different pages and avoid stuffing all the keywords and phrases into one page.

Getting all of your pages indexed is very important. A site map is a page that has text links to all of the pages of your site. A site map serves two purposes: It helps users find what they are looking for as well as it helps search engine robots land on the interior pages. After you build your site map page, be sure to make a link to it from your home page and the other important pages of your website. And so on…

Make sure you understand how you design and structure your site.

When I set up my first website, I designed it as a tutorial for my clients doing business with on a daily basis. I did not even consider keywords, or Google. It took months to be indexed. When Sony Video picked it up and linked it to their site, all of a sudden I was in the top pages of Google with nothing to sell. Content is by far the most important element for your site.

There is plenty of information you can get for free about how to design and structure your website. If it is too confusing, check my site for help. I am using only two tools: WEB structuring and keywords selection.

How to Use Keywords

The topic of how keywords can help you with the WEB business might sound trivial. It is not. Search for low competition keywords. Those are keywords that have at least 300 searches a month and that have less than 5000 competing pages in Google (when entered between quotation marks like this 'keyword'). Try to find 5 to 10 good keywords related to the same topic. The idea is to focus on keywords for which you can get a first page ranking in Google, Msn and Yahoo. You also have to understand how to place your keyword or use them in some kind of context in your content as well as your site.

The Best Internet Advertising Is Free Classified Ads

There are many ways to get search engine exposure, one of which is free advertising.

Hundreds of websites are designed specifically to support classified ads. They provide a free service for interested parties looking for goods and services. They make money mostly from Google ad sense and premium advertising. The ads submitter, which is a simple form, makes it easy to place your ads any time, around the clock. Look for sites that provide specific ads for your particular product or service. Another benefit is that the search engines crawl them very often and pick up your URL or name. Most of internet advertising companies provide up to three slots to advertise any product or service for free. An additional advantage is their targeted structure, specific services and goods. Make sure the Google page rank of the selected site is reasonable. These sites can be found by searching for "free ads".

You must believe in your business to succeed. If you don't believe that it's possible for you to have a successful home based business or make your living from home, you won't. It's that simple.

Work On Line From Home - Learn Internet Marketing - Keywords!

An open letter to out-of-work, retired, stay at home individuals.

Learn How to Use Keywords -You Will Make Money even without a website.

The term keywords are often used to define what the web surfers (potential customers) are typing. In actuality they type, for instance, "free backup software for my computer". The search engines pickup first "free", second, "software", third, "backup" and the rest is left out. The search engines know that software is associated with a computer and free means free. In fact no one is typing keywords. They type phrases, or a multitude of keywords. The articles in this section will help you choose keywords searchers are actually using that match what the search engines are delivering.

You can find abstract explanations about how to select your keywords all over the Internet. Good luck understanding the actual implementation. I will make it very simple by using a real application that worked for me.

Target a small niche market: "Psoriasis".

Years back I did some search for psoriasis cures or remedies, trying to help a family member experiencing a form of mild psoriasis condition his doctor could not help.

Psoriasis is a skin disorder with no medical cure. There are a sizable number of people who suffer from it and are willing to try anything that will offer relief. It has something to do with an overreaction of the immune system. Medical treatments designed to control the immune system are very expensive and not very effective. These treatments only control the condition, not cure it. During my search I came across an E-book called "The Psoriasis Miracle Breakthrough". I purchased the book, and after studying it I concluded that it contained some valuable diet information that was helping my family member. It happened that the author offered an affiliate program for this book.

I used the book as an experiment to find out how effective my niche marketing strategy and the use of keywords / terms was. Here it is.

Select your keyword or terms to be listed on top pages with search engines.

There are free tools available that can help you with this process. However, depending on how intensive your search is, you might decide to purchase software that makes your search much more effective. You must select the right combination of keywords and phrases that will make your site competitive. The major free tools are Google Search Tool, Wordtracker, Yahoo Search Marketing and others. Selecting competitive keywords or key phrases is easier said than done. However, there is a way to do it.

The following parameters are being used to select competitive key phrases:

  1. Prospects - The number of terms entered into the search engines.
  2. Competition - The number of sites indexed by search engines for the specific term.
  3. Adwords Cost - The estimated price charged by Google and Yahoo for the specific term to be listed on top of the first page.
  4. SOC- The value represents the Strength of Competition score (1-1000). It calculates the level of SEO optimization of the top pages for the specific term. The lower the number the better.

If you search for "psoriasis" using the quotation marks you will get:

Prospects = 165,000, Competition = 6,870,000. Psoriasis without quotation marks counts all the entries containing it. It will bring the number to 1,000,000 per month. It is obvious that there is a reasonable demand for anything related to "psoriasis". This search generates hundreds of key phrases or terms.

Selecting competitive terms is a very simple process, once you have collected the above information for all your terms. This is a dynamic monthly process. Pick up as many terms as qualified. You will notice variations in numbers from month to month. Also, understand you are not the only one doing this. Your competitors are doing the same thing.

Qualify the most effective and competitive keywords / key phrases

Step1 - Pick up terms.

Terms must have a minimum of 500 entries (searches) per month and SOC less than 100. Use Adwords for test only, unless they are inexpensive.

Term: "new psoriasis treatment"

Prospects: 33,100, Competition: 4,680, Ad. Cost: 2.71, SOC: 17

Term: "new psoriasis treatments" (note plural)

Prospects: 33,100, Competition: 154,000, Ad. Cost: 3.24, SOC: 3

Term: "psoriasis and diet"

Prospects: 480, Competition: 9,180, Ad. Cost: 0.94, SOC: 5

Term: "psoriasis diet"

Prospects: 4,400, Competition: 211,000, Ad. Cost: 1.39, SOC: 228

Term: "plaque psoriasis treatment"

Prospects: 720, Competition: 1,160,000, Ad. Cost: 0.05, SOC: 2

Step 2 - Analysis and selection.

Term: "new psoriasis treatment"

Prospects: 33,100, Competition: 4,680, Ad. Cost: 2.71, SOC: 17

We have 33,100 prospects searching "new psoriasis treatment" per month. The competition is only 4,680 exact phrases. You can do a test by entering "new psoriasis treatment" in Google. You will get something close to this number by the time you read this article. The Ad Cost seems too high for me so I certainly will not bid at this price. However, SOC is 17 and that is very attractive to tailor my landing page using this term.

Term: "new psoriasis treatments" (note plural)

Prospects: 33,100, Competition: 154,000, Ad. Cost: 3.24, SOC: 3

This term is very attractive due to the number of prospects and limited but healthy competition. The high value of Ad Cost is indicative of a high conversion rate. I would not bid Adwords with these terms. The SOC is a very attractive 3. That means the sites competing are weak on SEO optimization. This a good term to be integrated in your site or blog.

Term: "psoriasis and diet"

Prospects: 480, Competition: 9,180, Ad. Cost: 0.94, SOC: 5

Although the prospect is only 480, the competition is also low 9,180. Ad cost is too high. Don't go for adwords. SOC is 5. This is a perfect term for the your site or blog.

Term: "psoriasis diet"

Prospects: 4,400, Competition: 211,000, Ad. Cost: 1.39, SOC: 228

The "psoriasis and diet" term is very competitive. Take a look the above "psoriasis diet". They mean the same thing regarding our prospects. Look at the difference. The SOC is 228, way too high. You should use "psoriasis and diet". It will give you more traction against the competition.

Term: "plaque psoriasis treatment"

Prospects: 720, Competition: 1,160,000, Ad. Cost: 0.05, SOC: 2

This term is very special. Prospects is 720, Competition is 1,160,000. However, the SOC is very, very attractive, only 2 and Ad Cost is only 0.05. You should certainly implement this term in your site. You can also go aggressively with Adwords.

Conclusion

Selecting your keyword / key phrases / terms is crucial for the promotion of your website. It is an ongoing process. The competition is doing the same thing. It must be done monthly. There is no way around it. I tested this model using Adwords four years ago. The conversion rate, people who purchased by clicking on my site, was very high: 20 percent. Over a three month period, out of 100 clicks on my site, 20 were purchases. My return to investment was 50 percent. I spent on average $200 per month to make $300 in sales, or $100 profit. This is a very reasonable return. Keep in mind, this was a test.

Don't go for promises to make thousands of Dollars in 48 hours. You can't.

In my next article, I will show how you can benefit from Ebay referral (it pays $25.00) picking up the right keywords.
