Work On Line From Home – Make Money With eBay Affiliate and Keywords!

An open letter to out-of-work, retired, stay at home individuals.

Ebay offers a generous affiliate commission if you can send customers to the auction site. You earn $25.00 for each new active user you send to eBay. A New Active User is defined as an individual who registers for eBay for the first time, confirms his or her registration with an eBay-supplied password sent by email and goes onto eBay and

places a bid to purchase an item within 30 days of their original registration.

The utilities provided by eBay allow you to present on one page of your site the exact eBay page as you are eBay, without prospects even knowing that you are an affiliate. It is totally transparent to the prospect.

The main purpose is to present the prospect with the eBay page containing the exact keyword term of interest. I am targeting someone looking to buy the Canon G7 electronic camera. After I did my keyword analysis I found the term - canon g7 review - quite competitive. This term tells me that the prospect is quite interested in this camera. He is looking for reviews of this particular camera. The other, more important reason for my selection is that I can successfully compete with all major sites on Google.

Before we get into how to use eBay, let's examine the power of keyword terms selection. If you have not read my previous article about the keywords, the following parameters will be used to define competitive terms for the targeted market / product:

  1. Prospects - The number of terms entered into the search engines.
  2. Competition - The number of sites indexed by search engines for the specific term.
  3. AdWords Cost - The estimated price charged by Google and Yahoo for the specific term to be listed on top of the first page.
  4. SOC- The value represents the Strength of Competition score (0-1000). It calculates the level of SEO optimization of the top pages for the specific term. The lower the number the better.

The term - canon g7 review -

Prospects: 720, Competition: 89, Ad Cost: .43, SOC: 0

The average number of people searching Google for this term per month is 750. The number of sites containing the term is 89. The SEO optimization for the first page on Google is 0.

A special note is in order here. The parameter -Competition- is determined by searching through Google using the term in quotation marks. The first page on Google, will report 52,000 sites. Now, step through each page until you find the following message at the end of page: If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included. This page contains the 89th site displayed by Google. The rest of pages are considered redundant or irrelevant. This is the number used for Competition.

This represents a very attractive opportunity even using AdWords might be worth it. It could be quite easy to get your site on the first page on Google for some time.

Signing Up for eBay's Affiliate Program

eBay's Affiliate Program is administered through Commission Junction

( www.cj.com ) so you have to sign up to participate. Fill out the form and you should be approved immediately. Once you're a member of CJ log into your account. Click on Account and then Web Site Settings. Look for PID. Write this number down and keep it handy. That is the only thing you need from CJ to promote the eBay Affiliate program. Everything else you can do by using eBay's Affiliate Tools.

eBay Affiliate Tools

eBay provides several excellent tools that allow you to link to a specific item on eBay, any category of items or even an automatically updated list of items that match a specific search. You simply input your PID and supply a few bits of information and eBay's tools generate the code you need. You then simply place this code on a webpage and start driving traffic to it. Note: You must be a Registered eBay user to use the tools, which is also free.

Brief description of the tools

Flexible Destination Tool (AKA Flex Tool) - This tool allows you to link to any eBay page with your Affiliate ID embedded.

Editor Kit - Using this tool you can enter a search phrase and eBay will generate a list of items based on your search. You can narrow the search down by selecting other criteria such as Buy It Now Only, a Minimum and Maximum price range, showing items in only certain categories, etc. The best thing about this tool is that the content is dynamically updated in real time.

Note: You'll need a website to get the most out of the Editor Kit and some of the other tools. Websites are very inexpensive now and even if you don't want to create a full-blown content website you will still get a lot of use just by using it as a place to put up web pages for various projects.

RSS Feed Generator - this is very similar to the Editor Kit but it generates an RSS feed instead of an html page. You can use this RSS feed on your blog or anywhere else RSS feeds are appropriate. Just like with the Editor Kit the content is dynamically updated in real time.

Keyword Linking - the Keyword Linking tool allows you to enter a search term, ISBN or UPC and it will generate a link that directs users to a list of items that match your criteria with your affiliate id embedded.

Product Kit - it is similar to the Editor Kit in that it creates dynamically generated content based on search criteria that you enter. It creates more of a user experience with a Catalog of items related to the search term. While the Editor Kit creates item listings that can be used on a webpage, the Product Kit creates a full blown webpage that can stand on it's own without the need for other content. (It is as having a mini version of eBay on your site)

Sources of ideas for hot products selling on Ebay

The important element in searching for ideas is NEW anything, Before it launches such as movies, games, books, etc. You must be prepared when the product is released.

Amazon's New Releases

This will give you a list of all the new DVD's, Music, Books, Toys, Apparel, and Video Games. Right now the Transformer movie is getting ready to be released. I see one of the new releases on Amazon, the Transformers Optimus Prime figurine (at the time of writing this article). That gives me an idea so I look up -Transformers Movie- and look for article subjects related to this topic.

Amazon's Hot Sellers

These are all hot sellers so there is bound to be some serious searching going on for these products.

Froogle.com

Go to Froogle and on the home page there are 25 products that people have recently searched for using Froogle. Try any of those products.

Magazines.com

This is an amazing site for niche market hunting! Magazines spend a lot of money testing what to put on the covers of their magazines. You can be sure that anything mentioned on the cover is a hot topic.

Conclusion

Learn the importance and the power of keywords and phrases before anything else and you will be successful. Using the eBay as an educational vehicle, it will make you some money, but most importantly, it is a very inexpensive learning tool. It is also scaleable. You can add dozens of products at no incremental cost to your marketing, except your time. Do not go out and buy complicated programs that promise huge returns immediately. That is not possible. You can get to where these programs are promising on your own - one step at a time. Learn the power of keyboards as your first step.
